We undertook a seven-week project for Spire Healthcare, valued at £667,500, to rejuvenate the Angiology department. This project wasn’t just about a facelift; it was a strategic overhaul to enhance functionality and incorporate cutting-edge technology.

The Objective

The task was to refurbish the existing Angiology department. We planned to do this by reconfiguring the space to host a larger technical room, a newly configured angio room, a control room, processing room, as well as change, store, and reporting rooms. Every modification aimed to support the department’s advanced medical procedures and patient care services.

Navigating Challenges

Operating in the heart of a busy hospital, the project presented unique challenges. The work had to be executed in a live hospital environment, demanding meticulous planning to ensure that the hospital’s day-to-day operations were not disrupted. This required careful coordination and constant communication with hospital staff to maintain a safe and functional environment for both patients and medical professionals.

The installation of a state-of-the-art Angiography machine, the GE Allia IGS 520 with Autoright, stood at the core of this refurbishment. This piece of advanced medical equipment demanded precise handling and installation, further emphasizing the need for expert project management.

Technological and Structural Enhancements

To support the high-tech equipment, DD Porter also installed a new air handling unit on the roof, alongside new condensers and AC units. These upgrades were critical in ensuring that the department could maintain the optimal conditions required for the equipment to operate efficiently and for patients to remain comfortable.

The electrical installation was comprehensive, covering fire alarm systems, nurse call systems, and lighting. This ensured that the department was not only up-to-date with the latest technology but also compliant with safety standards.

Custom Solutions

True to form, DD Porter’s in-house joinery workshop contributed significantly to the project, crafting bespoke joinery that met the specific needs of the Angiology department. This custom work allowed for a tailored approach to the department’s new layout and functional requirements, demonstrating DD Porter’s ability to deliver personalised solutions.

Conclusion

In just seven weeks, DD Porter transformed the Angiology department at Spire Healthcare into a modern, efficient space equipped to handle the demands of contemporary medical procedures. Through strategic planning, expert execution, and custom craftsmanship, this project underscored DD Porter’s ability to deliver complex refurbishments in critical healthcare environments.
