Our History

DD Porter was founded in 1963, a fact we are very proud about and we still remain a predominantly family owned business.

1963
In March Derek Porter formed D.D. Porter Ltd registered at New Street Halifax. In the early years he focused on speculative house building completing several housing estates in the Halifax Area.
1985
Richard Porter joins the business and takes over as Managing Director of the business as Derek Porter turns 60.

Derek Porter retires.
2000
The business moves from New Street to Walnut Street to a new factory and offices.

2017
After 32 years, Richard Porter stands down and Peter Priestley becomes Managing Director. The company has developed into multi-disciplined Construction Company working throughout the UK, with a turnover of £25 million and 80 staff. It has based its foundations on the simple ethos of Quality, Value and Customer care, delivered on time
1970
Due to the lack of available land, Derek changed direction undertaking general building projects for Samuel Webster and Sons brewers, Calderdale Health Authority and John Holdsworth and Co. with a workforce of eight, which took him into the 1980’s.
1988
DD Porter were awarded the contract by Siemens Medical to create the building environment for the new CT Scanner funded by the Halifax Courier Appeal. Thus started a successful business relationship which exists to this day. From this opportunity the company diversified into the medical sector working for numerous blue chip medical organisations throughout the UK.
1996
DD Porter ventured into the Radiotherapy field with an extension at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology for Elekta Oncology Systems. This relationship is still going strong today.
2008
DD Porter complete the building of the first private cancer centre outside London at Havant near Portsmouth for Elekta and Cancer Partners UK. Over the next 12 years we would build another 13 centres across the UK.
