DD Porter were appointed to undertake the application of insulation and render to all elevations of this historic structure to improve the thermal efficiency and at the same time transform the aesthetics into a modern feature of the Halifax skyline.
The Challenge
The challenge involved fully scaffolding all elevations to a height of over 20 meters and undertaking the works without affecting the operations of the college, especially during the examination period.
With the weather sensitive render product being applied to the whole building, working with the weather forecasts to short term plan the works became critical.
Creating a more Environmentally Friendly College for the Community
The works involve stone repairs and general maintenance of the building before it was protected with its new external layer of insulation, board and render. The benefits of the cost savings made to the college and the carbon footprint of the heating of the building will be felt for many years to come.
Outcome
When complete the building looks stunning and improves the learning environment for staff and students. The modern look will assist in setting the standards for the college and attracting a high calibre of students to study in the vibrant environment.
The building is now a statement for the town and the project has received positive press and reactions from all quarters.
With the successful completion of the external envelope scheme, DDP were appointed to refurbish the college reception. This project was £ 480k in value and working to fixed deadlines dictated by college term dates, the DDP team delivered a modern, clean, dynamic reception through which students are welcomed into the building.
