DD Porter has successfully delivered a critical enabling works package at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, supporting the installation of a new CT scanner for Siemens Healthineers.
The 10-week programme involved extensive internal modifications to prepare the space for high-spec diagnostic equipment, all delivered within a live clinical environment. Working in collaboration with hospital estates teams, DD Porter implemented robust infection control measures and planned works meticulously to ensure minimal disruption to patient care.
Scope of Works and Technical Delivery
The enabling works focused on two primary challenges: the installation of a HTM-compliant air handling unit (AHU) and the creation of a structural delivery opening to accommodate the incoming scanner.
The new AHU was essential to meet stringent ventilation and air quality requirements for imaging suites. DD Porter coordinated mechanical and electrical trades to deliver this system with precision, ensuring full compliance with healthcare technical standards.
In parallel, the creation of a structural opening required careful engineering and temporary works to protect the surrounding hospital infrastructure. The team’s experience in complex live-site environments was key to delivering this aspect safely and efficiently.
