DD Porter undertook a transformative project for the Optegra York cataract and laser surgery clinic. Valued at £1.1 million and delivered over 16 weeks, the project would form the basis for a brand new branch of Optegra’s UK-wide healthcare offering.

The Objective

The project’s primary goal was to create a high-functioning clinical space within an existing office structure, tailored for the high turnover associated with cataract and laser surgeries. This required meticulous planning and execution to ensure the new clinic could accommodate a streamlined process from consultation to surgery and then to post-operative care, all within a day.

Creating a Clinical Environment

Transforming an office building into a clinical facility posed unique challenges. The space had to be reimagined to support a specific patient journey: from the consultant area to the theatre, followed by an outpatient room, and finally, discharge. This journey necessitated the creation of highly specialized areas, each designed to support the quick and efficient turnover of patients, which is critical for the clinic’s operations.

Custom Joinery and In-House Craftsmanship

A standout feature of this project was the use of custom joinery, all of which was crafted in DD Porter’s in-house workshop. This approach ensured that every piece of furniture and cabinetry was specifically designed to meet the unique requirements of a healthcare setting, focusing on hygiene, durability, and efficiency.

Outcome

By converting an office building into a state-of-the-art cataract and laser surgery clinic, DD Porter not only provided a vital resource to help reduce NHS waiting times but also showcased their expertise in delivering complex projects within strict timelines and budgets.

This project exemplifies how adaptive and innovative solutions can meet the growing demands of healthcare delivery, demonstrating DD Porter’s commitment to excellence and their role in supporting public health initiatives.
